INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF RURAL SCIENTISTS.
Science Buddies™ reaches a diverse audience of more than 18 million K-12 students, parents and teachers each year from all walks of life through its online platform. This platform helps students build literacy in science and technology through the use of free learning tools. This includes experiments and engagement with an online community of science professionals who advise and inspire students to pursue further education in science and technology.
As part of our ongoing commitment to furthering STEM education, Astellas USA Foundation is pleased to expand its existing partnership with Science Buddies to continue inspiring the next generation of scientists through reaching the critical gap in STEM outreach in rural communities.
In 2016, Astellas USA Foundation is funding a new Science Buddies outreach campaign in rural communities in Illinois Districts 13 and 16. The campaign will increase awareness among local educators about Science Buddies by curating and publicizing project ideas and activities specifically targeted for these rural communities.
Science Buddies staff scientists will develop a new project idea related to the area's Mississippi River Valley and Tributaries. Activities might relate to local crop production, geological features, microclimates and natural habitats. Through this, children can see how STEM comes to life right around them.
In prior years, Astellas USA Foundation sponsored eight Science Buddies science career profile pages and supported the creation of three new career profiles featuring Astellas employees to help students meet real scientists and learn more about what they studied when they were kids. These career resources reach more than 120,000 students, parents and teachers annually. Additionally, Astellas USA Foundation has partnered with Science Buddies to support its plant biology interest area, providing more than 400,000 students access to exciting, free science resources each year. Astellas USA Foundation also sponsored the creation of two new project ideas in the botany interest area, allowing Science Buddies to continue to produce new resources.
Thanks to the ongoing support from Astellas USA Foundation, students can see how STEM comes to life right around them.
