Did you know that seven times a day, someone in the United States dies in a home fire? In fact, more people die in home fires each year than in many major natural disasters. With the help and support of Astellas USA Foundation, the American Red Cross® is canvasing neighborhoods - particularly communities most at risk for a fire - installing smoke detectors and educating about fire prevention. Home fires don’t impact everyone equally. Low-income, elderly, disabled and youth populations are all more likely to be severely affected by a fire in their home than the general population. Special emphasis is placed on these populations most vulnerable to home fires.

Astellas USA Foundation provides funds to American Red Cross® when disaster strikes.

As part of our commitment to supporting people when disaster strikes, we provided a grant to American Red Cross® to assist those affected by the flooding in Texas that has caused severe damage and displacement in the Houston area, and the flooding in South Carolina after devastating storms impacted thousands of lives and washed away hundreds of homes. Additionally, we provided a grant to American Red Cross® to meet the emergency needs of earthquake-affected populations to Ecuador, when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake took the lives of hundreds of people and displaced thousands, in Nepal and to offer relief for the victims of the Canadian Wildfires.

50 Astellas employees participated in a recent blood drive that resulted in 48 pints of blood collected that can help the American Red Cross® save up to 144 lives.
